Solution 1: Check Your Recovery Drive¶

First, let’s see if the file is hiding somewhere on your recovery drive. This is the easiest fix if it works!

1. Plug It In: Connect your recovery drive to your computer. USB, external hard drive, whatever you’ve got.

2. File Explorer Time: Open File Explorer and navigate to this location: <Recovery Drive>:\\EFI\\Microsoft\\Boot. Look for a file named winsipolicy.p7b.

3. Copy and Paste: Found it? Awesome! Copy that file and paste it into <Recovery Drive>:\\EFI\\Boot. Yes, it’s a slightly different location, even though it’s on the same drive. This is where Windows expects it to be when booting in S mode.

Solution 2: Borrow from Another Windows PC¶

If the file wasn’t on your recovery drive, no problem! We can snag it from another Windows computer. Here’s the drill:

1. Connect to a Friend: Connect your recovery drive to another Windows computer. It doesn’t have to be in S Mode; any Windows machine will do.

2. Find the File: Open File Explorer on that computer and go to C:\\Windows\\Boot\\EFI. You should find winsipolicy.p7b there.

3. Copy to Recovery Drive: Copy the winsipolicy.p7b file from the other computer and paste it into <Recovery Drive>:\\EFI\\Boot on your recovery drive. Remember, it’s the recovery drive, not the computer you’re borrowing from.
